marriage, not wedding: 1

one of perhaps the most important reminders i give to myself [and my dad gives to me!] is that my priority in this season is preparing for a lifetime of marriage. sure, the details of the wedding are fun and it's a super special day, but let's not get out of control here.

so last night my future husband (FH) and i had an excellent conversation in preparation for marriage. [we actually talked about our wedding earlier with some of our friends & it got me really excited for how unique our special day will be!! but i digress...]

anyway, we talked about household chores.FH was chatting with his co-worker whose wife does basically everything at home... dishes, ironing, laundry, cooking, garbage, cleaning, etc. etc. FH wasn't impressed. he and i began talking about "traditional" gender roles and how we expect our household to be run starting in november. we concluded that we are both naturally good at some things & we both enjoy some things. it makes sense that those will be things we will probably naturally take on as we begin life together. for example:

he likes mowing the lawn. he's awesome at painting. he hates cooking. he's conscientious about being clean.

i like cooking. i hate ironing [and can't really iron]. i love folding clean clothes. i hate clutter and organize compulsively.

and of course there are some things we've already begun to tackle together: garbage/recycling, doing dishes, scraping/painting, and basic gardening.

we also talked about ways we'll be able to love each other more as time goes by. sometimes he'll come home from work dead tired so i could love him by mowing the lawn or ironing his shirt. most likely i'll come home from work dead tired every once in a while and he could love me by picking up the living room or ordering pizza for dinner. that kind of thing.
